Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has decided to install modular rain water harvesting system on over a dozen public buildings to conserve ground water.Officials said that this project has been included under Smart City initiative and around 15 buildings have been chosen, where the high-tech rain water harvesting system would be installed. The list includes eight government school buildings along with collectorate, revenue commissioner office, Swami Vivekananda School, Modern Dental College and Research Centre, MGM Medical College and Maharaja Ranjit Singh College buildings. Officials with Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) said that the unique modular concept of rain water harvesting system comes with high-end modules and storage tank technology.“This high-tech system uses co-polymer based cross-wave technology to replace conventional method with precision,” said Mahesh Sharma, a senior official with ISCDL.He said that Rs6.75 crore would be spent on this project. “A private agency would be hired for installation as well as maintenance of this system on all buildings for three years,” he added.Detailing about the difference between conventional and modular rain water harvesting systems, officials said that modular harvesting works on advanced dual step external filtration. It does not involve any concreting work and involves digging and installation of equipment, unlike conventional concreting work for chamber construction. Its size can also be changed based on requirement.“Even top surface after installation of can be used for parking lots, gardens, lawns and sports fields as it is packed with increased load bearing panels,” they said, adding that it collects more water and releases it after double filtration.
