Slapgate: BJP approaches commissioner, top cop for arrest, removal of corporator

Indore: A delegation of BJP corporators on Saturday met SSP seeking arrest of a Congress corporator for allegedly slapping an IMC assistant chief sanitation officer.“On March 18, Congress corporator from Ward-2 Mubaraq Mansuri had misbehaved and slapped an IMC assistant chief sanitation officer Umesh Prajapati. Police have registered case under weaker sections including 353, 323 and 34 of IPC and failed to arrest him even after six days since the incident,” BJP corporator and whip Bhagwan Singh Chouhan told TOI. He added that in a meeting with SSP Ruchivardhan Mishra at police headquarters, a delegation of BJP corporators urged her to add appropriate sections of IPC as it was in the case of BJP corporator from Ward-31 Saroj Chouhan and her supporters allegedly misbehaving and manhandling IMC officials. He added that SSP has assured BJP corporators to take appropriate actions in Mansuri’s case in days to come. “If it is not done, BJP will launch a protest against Congress-led state government and local police,” he said.Chouhan added that as per MP Municipal Corporation Act 1956, a corporator can be removed on two third of members (corportors) of municipal council passing resolution. There are 68 BJP corportors in 85-seat municipal council. “Due to implementation of model code of conduct, no meeting of BJP corporators could be held. To this, we have decided to appeal to EC to allow us to hold a meeting to pass the proposed resolution,” he said.Meanwhile, BJP corporators have urged divisional commissioner Akash Tripathi for removal of Mansuri from post of corporator under Section 19/1 of MP Municipal Corporation Act, 1956.
