100-acre land sought to shift Chhawani mandi

Indore: Chhawani Anaj Mandi committee has approached Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) for land at Devguradia trenching ground for shifting the mandi there. Therefore, it will be difficult to provide space for Chhawani Anaj Mandi,” IMC additional commissioner Rajneesh Kasera said. The land is however stated to be not enough to meet requirement of next 100 years.“The committee has written to IMC for land at trenching ground to shift the mandi. Land at trenching ground is ideal and therefore, committee has once again written to IMC to reconsider their demands.Devguradia trenching ground is spread across 159 acres. The committee is not in favour of shifting mandi to land earmarked in Kailod Kartal and is demanding 100 acres, which is available at trenching ground,” ADM and mandi in charge officer Kailash Wankhede said.

Following increase in footfall at mandi leading to frequent jams in crowded areas causing problems for farmers, traders and commuters, district administration had proposed shifting of the market outside city. It had marked 25 acres in Kailod Kartal area. The land is however stated to be not enough to meet requirement of next 100 years.“The committee has written to IMC for land at trenching ground to shift the mandi. The committee is not in favour of shifting mandi to land earmarked in Kailod Kartal and is demanding 100 acres, which is available at trenching ground,” ADM and mandi in charge officer Kailash Wankhede said. Around 14 years ago, committee of Chhawani Anaj Mandi had approached IMC for space in the area but Mayor-In-Council (MIC) had turned it down.According to officials, number of food processing units is increasing in district and there is need to shift city-based anaj mandis to areas well connected to highways. Land at trenching ground is ideal and therefore, committee has once again written to IMC to reconsider their demands.Devguradia trenching ground is spread across 159 acres. Of this, IMC has proposed city forest in 100 acres while the remaining area has been marked for other projects.“IMC has proposed city forest and some other projects at trenching ground. Therefore, it will be difficult to provide space for Chhawani Anaj Mandi,” IMC additional commissioner Rajneesh Kasera said.
