Taps run dry at Chandan Nagar due to leak in pipeline

“Since the tank was already filled with water before the line developed leakage, water kept coming out through the leakage. INDORE: Water supply in Chandan Nagar and nearby localities was affected on Sunday morning following leakage in connecting line of an overhead tank during supply time.More than a thousand residents were affected due to the leakage.The leakage occurred near Chandan Nagar overhead tank at around 6.30am. A team of Narmada project reached the area and started repair work that continued till late night.Huge amount of water was wasted. “The repair work is expected to be completed before midnight. This hampered supply to Chandan Nagar and Scheme 71 areas,” said Sanjeev Shrivastava, a senior official with Narmada Project.Shrivastava said that tank water had to be released before they could begin repair work.

Locals of the area alerted officials. A team of Narmada project reached the area and started repair work that continued till late night.Huge amount of water was wasted. Local residents were also seen collecting water from leakage point for domestic use.Officials said that the line was too old and could not bear the pressure during supply.“One of the connecting lines of Chandan Nagar overhead tank developed leakage during supply. This hampered supply to Chandan Nagar and Scheme 71 areas,” said Sanjeev Shrivastava, a senior official with Narmada Project.Shrivastava said that tank water had to be released before they could begin repair work. “Since the tank was already filled with water before the line developed leakage, water kept coming out through the leakage. We had no option but to empty the tank before starting repair work,” he said.The water was released in a well located nearby and from there it was supplied to residents through tankers.Shrivastava said that there was no crisis as water was supplied through tankers. “The repair work is expected to be completed before midnight. There should not be any problem from tomorrow,” he added.
