Aishwarya Sakhuja relishes flavours at Masala Chowk in Jaipur

This food court is a one-stop destination for different delicacies, all under one roof. From adrak-elaichi kulhad chai for ?20 to a samosa for ?20, the court offers a great variety of budget-friendly delicacies. The historic Ram Niwas Garden , these days, is abuzz with food lovers sampling different street and regional delicacies at the newly opened food court, Masala Chowk . Started by the Jaipur Development Authority, the food court was inaugurated by the Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on January 26, and is already a hit with Jaipurites and foreign tourists alike.We spotted TV actress Aishwarya Sakhuja relishing golgappas at one of the stalls. The actress told us that she was in the town visiting historical places, and when she heard about the newly-opened food court, she couldn’t resist herself from exploring it.Aishwarya Sakhuja gorging on a plate of golgappas at the food court (Pankaj Sharma)Aishwarya says, “I visited Jaipur after almost 10 years. I was surprised to see how the city has transformed over the years and has got a new face. It now has broad and clean roads, high-rise buildings and has undergone a huge urban development. When I was told about this new food court, I could not resist and decided to visit it once before leaving for Mumbai.”Jaipurites trying out dosa and other street delights at the food court (Pankaj Sharma)Vaibhav Galriya, Commissioner, Jaipur Development Authority, says, “Jaipur is known for its rich culture, heritage, and a great variety of food. This food court is a one-stop destination for different delicacies, all under one roof. There are 21 stalls here with a proper seating arrangement so that everyone can sit and enjoy food with friends and family. We are planning to add a few more kiosks.” He adds, “We are also planning to start an auditorium to host cultural concerts with a seating capacity of 500 people. To manage parking woes, we are about to start e-rickshaw service, which will ferry guests from Ram Niwas Garden underground parking to the Chowk, and will be free of cost.”Jaipurites trying out different delicacies at the newly-opened food court at Ram Niwas Garden (Pankaj Sharma)From faluda ice-cream and spicy Kalkatti chaat to golgappe, dahi-papdi chaat and daal, baati, churma, the food court has a variety of street food and regional delicacies. For Rajasthani food lovers, there are stalls which offer daal, bati, baajre ki rabri, missi roti, lehsun ki chutney. From adrak-elaichi kulhad chai for ?20 to a samosa for ?20, the court offers a great variety of budget-friendly delicacies. It houses 21 stalls, set up in a quadrangular courtyard, that’s why it has been named as, ‘chowk’.Divyanshu Agarwal, one of the stall owners, who sells kesar kulfi and faluda, says, “Some of our hot-selling kulfi flavours are kewra-badam, kesar-pista, kaju-kishmish and special rabri-faluda. The footfall so far has been around 2,000 to 2,500 customers every day.”
