SMS hosp gets Rs 30L to boost firefighting system

The hospital will spend the funds on purchasing firefighting equipment.“A major part of the hospital has proper firefighting system. But, there are some parts in the hospital where firefighting system needs to be installed. Hospital officials said that due to high consumption of electricity in summer, there were incidents of short circuit firing. Jaipur: A fund of Rs 30 lakh has been approved by the state government for improving firefighting system at Sawai Man Singh ( SMS ) Hospital.The hospital had demanded funds for installing firefighting equipment in the hospital keeping in view safety of patients.

The hospital will spend the funds on purchasing firefighting equipment.“A major part of the hospital has proper firefighting system. But, there are some parts in the hospital where firefighting system needs to be installed. The government has provided us funds and soon, these sections of the hospital will also get proper firefighting system,” said Dr DS Meena, medical superintendent, SMS Hospital.Recently, cardiothoracic department’s operation theatre at Bangar block of SMS Hospital had caught fire which had caused damage to the operation theatre. When the fire broke out, the patients in ICU close to the place where fire triggered were rushed to safer places. After the incident, the SMS Hospital reviewed its fire safety measures.Sporadic incidents of fire at SMS Hospital have brought the hospital administration on its toes. Dr Meena said that they have instructed electrical engineering wing of the SMS Hospital to remain alert.Short circuit has caused at least three minor fire incidents in past two year in the hospital. Hospital officials said that due to high consumption of electricity in summer, there were incidents of short circuit firing. “Our electrical engineers are on the job. They are identifying the spots where cables have become old and also faulty that may cause fire incidents in the hospital. They have replaced the old cables with new one in the hospital wherever it was required,” said Dr SS Yadav, spokesperson, SMS Hospital.Four months ago, short circuit in a store where blankets were kept near laundry had caught minor fire after short circuit, but timely action prevented the fire to spread.
