Jaipur: As the number of vehicles is rising in the city, Jaipur Municipal Corporation has decided to construct six new foot overbridges (FOB) in the city to ensure the safety of pedestrians.Tenders are going to be issued within a day or two. Six places include- two bridges in Sikar Road, two bridges in Gopalpura bypass, one in front of JMC office at Tonk road and one in Ramniwaas garden. As soon as the tender process is completed, that can take around two months, the construction of the bridges will start. It is estimated that the bridges will be completed within six months after the tenders are awarded.Deputy mayor of the city Manoj Bharadwaj, while talking to TOI said, “The entire process is done under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model under which a private company will construct the bridge and handle it for seven years. Till then they will utilize it for advertisements to get back their cost of construction before handing it back to the JMC. This will ensure the safety of the pedestrians. When this plan is executed, we have planned to make four other bridges in the city.”Location of FOB was decided by short listing the heavy traffic places and frequent road mishaps. The traffic in the city comprises 57% of the two wheelers and the road mishaps are rising every day. According to sources the bridges were in demand for a long time as the pedestrians have complained to the JMC many times. After the FOB will be ready around 20,000 people in the city will be benefited. There are even plans to build escalators for the convenience of the elderly and to save time of the people as most people have complained of not using the FOB as it takes too much time.
