JAIPUR: Two labourers were killed and 2 others were injured when a rashly driven SUV ran over the labourers sleeping on the pavement under the Saras Flyover near Gandhi Nagar railway station on Thursday evening. Initially 4 were injured, however 2 succumbed to the injuries during the wee hours. Passers’ by nabbed the driver of the SUV who was under inebriated condition and was handed over to the police.According to the police, the incident took place at 11.00 pm on Thursday when a Scorpio, which was coming from Gandhi Nagar railway station side and was going towards Saras Dairy plane, ran onto the pavement where the workers were sleeping.“The vehicle was supposed to take the sharp left turn near the bridge but it went straight on the pavement where the labourers were sleeping. 2 labourers were seriously injured while 2 others got normal injuries,” said a senior police officers.The accused driver in police custody.Two identified as Jagmohan(40) an d Shahid succumbed to the injuries in the hospital during early hours on Friday. “Initially we took all the injured to the Jaipuria hospital and thereafter they were shifted to the trauma wing of the SMS hospital. Two succumbed to the injuries during early hours on Friday,” said Narendra, station house officer, Accident (East).A large number of people gathered at the spot and thrashed the accused and also broke the windscreen of the vehicle.The driver of the vehicle was identified as Bharat Bhushan Meena(36) and was arrested. Immediately after the incident the accused was nabbed by the locals and was thrashed. “We have arrested him and have lodged a case under sections 289, 337, 338, 304-A of IPC 185 Motor vehicle act for driving due to negligence and also for drunken driving,” he added.Police added that the driver's breathalyzer test also indicated that he had alcohol above the permissible limit.
