City braces up for ICMC visit for lsquoHeritage cityrsquo tag

Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is making elaborate preparations for the visit of the international team that will visit the city to ascertain whether it deserves the ‘Heritage city’ tag.The International Council on Monuments and Cities (ICMC), will be in the city, from September 22 to 25, and will travel in the Walled City areas. There will also be some kind of monetary aid from the UNESCO, that will aid JMC for better administering the structures.

Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is making elaborate preparations for the visit of the international team that will visit the city to ascertain whether it deserves the ‘Heritage city’ tag.The International Council on Monuments and Cities (ICMC), will be in the city, from September 22 to 25, and will travel in the Walled City areas. The team will prepare a report and will send it to UNESCO, which will take the final call. For first three days, JMC officials will take the ICMC team to tour various places in the city, including the City Palace, Chhoti Chaupar, Kishanpole Bazaar, Chaura Rasta, Surajpole Bazaar, Nahargarh Fort, Sanganeri Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Jalebi Chowk, among others. On the fourth day, on September 25, the team will decide the place they want to visit.Chief executing officer of JMC, Mohan Lal Yadav, said, “The team will look into the fact that whether we are working on the conservation of the heritage of the city, and that it is not destroyed with modernisation, management and planning of the city. If Jaipur gets the tag of ‘Heritage city’, this will put it on the world map and will attract more tourism.
