Jaipur: A loud siren foiled a daredevil ATM loot bid on Thursday early morning in Mahapura area, forcing four robbers to make a hasty retreat.The incident occurred at 3 am on Thursday when four masked men entered into the cabin of a private bank’s ATM. They closed down the shutters and tied up the security guards.According to Bhankrota SHO Brij Bhushan Agarwal, the four tried to loot the ATM. However, the resulting tampering with the ATM set off warning alarms.“The warning alarms triggered a panic among robbers, they opened the shutters and fled from the spot,” Agarwal said.A CCTV footage show four robbers entering into the ATM cabin and lowering its shutters. The police said that the four accused had also snatched mobile phones from the security guards and threatened him not to speak to anyone.“They had hit into the ATM’s cash withdrawal box multiple times, they had tried to cut open the ATM but failed, the security alarm alerted the bank’s security room,” an official said.The Bhankrota police said that the robbers were rookies and did not to have any weapons on them. “An intensive search operation was launched, the robbers may have fled into nearby areas or hopped into some truck as the area located near to highway,” the official said.The Bhankrota police said that the CCTV footage of the entire Mahapura stretch on Jaipur-Ajmer highway is being retrieved to track down the movements of suspects.“The four robbers carried out a recce of the ATM. They waited in hiding and struck in wee hours. The FSL has collected samples from the crime scene including finger prints, we will match it with our database to check if it was handiwork of known gangs,” the official said.
