Cops go into overdrive to nab criminals, absconders before poll season begins

JAIPUR: As the state assembly elections, scheduled for later this year, approach closer, the city police are in a race against time to arrest their most-wanted criminals, smugglers and absconders, who could stir trouble during the polling season.The city police in last 30 days, have nabbed 600 warrantees and other suspects have been evading arrests. In last one month alone, the police nabbed over 40 illegal weapons from different gangs. Deputy commissioner of police (South) Vikas Pathak, said, that a special team has been set-up to track down suspects who have been evading arrest.“We are also making efforts to bring to book, the offenders who we suspect, are presently residing in other states. The wanted criminals of other states residing in the city are also under the scanner,” he said, adding that the accused involved in heinous offences, are on their priority list.Also on the police list are notorious gangs involved in illegal arms trade and inter-state illegal liquor mafia. The “tracking operation” against those who stopped attending trials, or fled into oblivion after their name cropped up in multiple crimes, continues all through the year. But the polling season is when the ‘wanted list’ nags cops the most. “These criminals double up as couriers for liquor mafia and arms suppliers.
