JAIPUR: The city police came under fire after a video of three cops thrashing a drunken youth near Jhalana area of the city, late on Thursday night, went viral on social media.The scuffle occurred at around 9.30pm under the limits of Gandhi Nagar police station area. The youth, identified as Abhishek Sharma, had allegedly rammed his car into a tempo, injuring its driver.The purported video, shot by a pedestrian, shows three constables pulling Sharma by hair, kicking and slapping him while taking him into the PCR van. The crowd cheered the cops and cajoled them to continue beating the youth, who claimed he was an NRI.The police, however, said that Sharma was heavily drunk and had bitten off a constable’s finger before tearing another constable’s uniform. “He injured one police constable, while he tore down the uniform of another cop. He was heavily drunk and misbehaved with cops even in the hospital,” said deputy commissioner of police (East), Gaurav Yadav.While no case of accident was filed against Sharma, the Gandhi Nagar police said that action will be taken against him for the violation of Section 60 (punishment for certain offences on roads) of the Rajasthan police act.The recent incident comes close on the heels of the Lucknow case, where the two UP cops shot down an executive of a tech giant, raising questions about police behaviour. The Jaipur police, however, said that Sharma was heavily drunk and was not willing to sit inside the PCR van. “He first attacked the cops. There were a lot of people who could have attacked him after the accident, therefore, we only took him to the PCR van,” said an official.The video, however, shows three cops charging on Sharma using foul language and slapping him multiple times.
