Jaisalmer: The Jaisalmer district administration for last two months had been organising Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities to increase awareness among people to vote. The results were very encouraging as maximum voting of 84.66% took place in Jaisalmer district in the state.Under the directions of Jaisalmer election officer, Om Kasera, continuous monitoring of SVEEP activities was being done and many unique initiatives were taken. As a result maximum voting took place at two assembly constituencies of Jaisalmer district, especially polling booths dominated by Muslims and Meghwals in Jaisalmer district where over 90% voting took place in 107 polling booths.Such a huge turnout can not only change the election results but even prove the assessment of political analysts wrong. This huge turnout is also giving sleepless nights to candidates. At Loono Ki Basti in the border area in Jaisalmer, maximum voting of 99.28% has taken place while at Khoria village the voting was 99.40%.Actually, in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts Muslim, Meghwal and Rajput dominated polling booths have witnessed record voting whereas polling booths dominated by educated people who are considered aware towards voting, the polling percentage was less. In rural areas where there is lack of awareness towards polling, this time there has been record polling. The reason behind this is said to be SVEEP activities by the district administration.Collector Om Kasera said under SVEEP activities many innovative campaigns were launched including Rangoli, Rammat Natak, participation in many fairs, rallies etc. and efforts were made to increase polling and it got results.He said Jaisalmer district with 84.66% voting has been at the top in the state with Jaisalmer assembly constituency registering 82.27% voting and 87.43% voting in Pokhran assembly constituency.Meanwhile such a huge voting has surprised political parties. This can spoil the calculations of the candidates. Out of 358 polling booths in the district there has been over 90% voting in 107 booths. At Loono Ki Basti 413 people out of 416 voted.Similarly, in Pokhran assembly constituency there are many booths where voting has been over 90% including Gomat 99.21%, Chinu 99.20% and Hariar 98.85% and in Barmer district there has been voting over 90%. At Kantal ka Paar in Sheo constituency the voting has been 100%, 98.02% at Matvo ki Dhani, 98.07% at Lohede and 98.80% at Sodhai. In this constituency Congress had fielded Ameen Khan and BJP had fielded Khuman Singh. In many areas of Jaisalmer and Barmer, candidates have also tried their best to increase the polling percentage.
