Jaipur: A day before swearing-in as chief minister, veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot claimed on Sunday that outgoing CM Vasundhara Raje was careless and reluctant in meeting people’s expectations. Speaking here after taking stock of the swearing-in ceremony preparations, Gehlot said that Raje squandered the huge mandate people gave her in 2013. “Everybody knows the financial condition of the state. Raje would have been able to achieve much more if she had wanted,” he said, adding that the Congress party’s main plank all through the recent elections was chiefly centred on Raje’s unwilling and careless attitude.“Baatein bahut hui par kaam hua nahi. Unhone laparwahi se paanch saal nikaal diye. (There were lot of talks but no work, she spent her tenure carelessly),” Gehlot told reporters. He also said that Raje’s friction with the BJP’s central leadership in New Delhi was the reason for her party’s decline. “There were problems between Raje, PM Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah. Because of these internal divisions, she became increasingly insecure and unwilling as she was unable to go past these problems and tensions. She had experience in running the government and could have achieved a lot more,” he said. When asked about the much-promised farmer loan waiver, Gehlot replied that the government and the party will do its work accordingly. Gehlot said that as soon as the new government is formed in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should tweet to instil; confidence among opposition parties elected in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.“There is a federal system in the country. Last time there was Congress party in power both in Rajasthan and New Delhi. Now we expect that the central government will go one step further and assure that Rajasthan will be given same treatment it extended to Raje,” he said.
