Erratic truck ban by Delhi Haryana irks Raj operators

Jaipur: The on and off ban on the entry of trucks which are run by diesel and are enabled upto Euro 5, imposed by Delhi and Haryana, has left the truck operators of Rajasthan in a lurch. “There is a clear directive that from April, 1, 2020 onwards, no trucks run by diesel and also which are not Euro 6-enabled would be allowed to operate. “Various state governments have been asked to ensure trucks having Euro 1 to Euro 5 technology do not run after March 31, 2020.

Jaipur: The on and off ban on the entry of trucks which are run by diesel and are enabled upto Euro 5, imposed by Delhi and Haryana, has left the truck operators of Rajasthan in a lurch. Earlier, Delhi and Haryana had banned the plying of heavy commercial vehicles such as trucks and trailers.Out of fear, the truck operators of Rajasthan are either not taking bulk bookings or are clearly telling their clients that consignments may get delayed.According to sources, the central pollution control board has been imposing ban on trucks on and off to check how it impacts the air pollution in Delhi and Haryana. “There is a clear directive that from April, 1, 2020 onwards, no trucks run by diesel and also which are not Euro 6-enabled would be allowed to operate. Thus, many truck operators have already started selling off the older trucks. Some truck manufacturers are also introducing various schemes to lure truck operators to purchase Euro 6-enabled CNG trucks. During December, 2018 last week to January, 2019 first week, the plying of trucks was banned in Haryana and Delhi from Rajasthan,” said Mahendra Singh Charan, spokesperson, All India Truck Congress, while talking to TOI.The recent order has now imposed the ban on the entry of trucks and other heavy motor vehicles into Haryana and Delhi on the Jaipur-Delhi national highway number 8 from January 22 to January 25 from 12am to 12pm. “Republic day could be the reason this time, but we have been facing such short-term bans since November, to curb air pollution in Delhi,” said Charan.Rajasthan has nearly seven lakh trucks out of which almost two lakh trucks are plying for the past 25 years. “Various state governments have been asked to ensure trucks having Euro 1 to Euro 5 technology do not run after March 31, 2020. Thus, central pollution control board introduces such bans on and off, on the entry of trucks into Delhi,” said Charan.Earlier, the entry of trucks into Haryana and Delhi from Rajasthan and other parts of the country was banned from January 4 to January 5, after the directives from the central pollution control board.
