The accused decamped with cash and jewellery worth several lakhs before they set the entire house on fire.Rajendra Kumar Sharma, physically challenged grocery shop-owner was found dead in pool of blood inside his house. His teenaged son is battling for life at a hospital while initial investigation indicates involvement of Sharma’s son-in-law Mukesh Kumar Sharma, the accused was detained on Sunday night.The sources in the police told TOI that the prime accused, Mukesh was rounded up later in the evening. “Mukesh was eyeing Rajendra’ property ever since the latter’s wife died a few years ago due to a prolonged illness,” said an official. Meanwhile, SHO Dinesh Kumar informed TOI that other accomplices were Mukesh’s friends and they together conducted recce on Rajendra. “They knew what time he (Rajendra) would go to sleep. Rajendra’ son was a hindrance for their plan, therefore, they first attacked him,” he said. The forensic teams collected samples of blood, clothes of victims and fingerprints. The sources in the city police said that prima facie it appears to be a case of murder for loot, the investigators have not ruled out other angles. “There were several disputes between Mukesh and Rajendra over property related matter etc. We will interrogate the accused following which a clear picture will emerge,” said the official.The FIR was registered by Rajendra’s nephew against the accused. “The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. Rajendra’s son is currently in hospital and his condition remains critical,” the official said. The CCTV footage of a road opposite Rajendra’ house has been retrieved by the cops.
