JAIPUR: State technical education department has hinted at bringing major reformatory measures to revive the technical education in the state on Wednesday. The department held a meeting with the corporates under the banner of CII to explore ‘Industrially-Academic’ relationship in designing curricula, industrial training and placements. This is first in the series of meetings with the stakeholders by the department.Subhash Garg, technical education minister, said, “Rajasthan has immense potential to become a hub of technical education in the country. The untapped potential required concerted efforts from all stakeholders to take state forward in this direction. This meeting will be followed by meetings with other departments and bodies like RBSE to technical education forward," said Garg.During the discussion, the members of CII suggested that the duration of B Tech should be reduced to three years instead of four years and rest one year should be kept for industry training. “The industrial training should be made in the beginning of the academic program of four years. Generally, students come in the fourth year for internship and finds no time to maintain their contact with the company,” said an academician during the meeting. The academician added that internship at early part of the academic program would also help the industry to monitor the performance of the intern. Some corpoartes complain that they are keen and always interested to take students for training and for jobs from Rajasthan Technical University and its affiliated colleges but they fail to find any. Garg assured the representatives of the different corporate houses to change the face of the technical education, if the required support is given by all the stakeholders.
