‘7,700 cases found fake’ JAIPUR: Loan waiver irregularities amounting to Rs 5.23 crore have been unearthed in Dungarpur district by the audit team of the state cooperatives department. The audit team, which probed 11,000 loan waiver cases, found an alarming 7,700 cases to have irregularities. Loan waivers in all these 7,700 cases have been cancelled.The audit was conducted following complaints that cooperative bank employees had issued fake farm loans and pocketed crores of rupees by waiving them under the previous Bharatiya Jana Party (BJP) government.Last year, the former Vasundhara Raje-led state government had announced farm loan waivers up to Rs 50,000 for small and marginal farmers in the state cooperative sector."Of the 11,000 loan waiver cases investigated in Dungarpur, 7,700 cases have been found to be fake loan waivers. All these have been cancelled. We have not deleted them as we want the cases to remain on record to show that we have rectified these fake waivers," said cooperatives registrar Neeraj Kumar Pawan.Another senior official from the department said, "Similar audits have been conducted in other districts like Banswara, Sawai Madhopur, Churu, Bharatpur, Jhunjhunu, Jalore, Sikar and Kota. The reports from these districts are awaited."The department had received 2,703 complaints from farmers and 1,971 out of them were found to be genuine.
