4 fake I-T officials ‘raid’ businessman’s house, held

Initially, the accused even tried to dodge cops by showing fake IT cards but in vain. “They asked a bribe of Rs 50 lakh for scrapping all cases against me. But as the negotiations progressed they lowered the demand to Rs 15 lakh. Then they began to ransack the house, and packed jewellery and cash into bags,” Sharma said.Raman Singh told the victim that he is from the IT department and had detected a serious fraud in Sharma’s account books.

JAIPUR: Taking a leaf out of Bollywood hit ‘Special 26,’ four robbers, including a woman posing as senior income tax (I-T) officials ‘raided’ the house of a businessman near Ridhi Sidhi area in Mansarovar on Saturday, but their bluff was caught after a family members called up cops.The police recovered toy guns, masks, and a fake moustache from the four accused identified as Raman Singh , his wife Neha Singh, Gaurav Singh and Mangal Singh, all residents of New Delhi.‘The accused had forged I-T cards, documents and files to evade the suspicion,” said SHO Mansarovar Sunil Kumar.The drama began when the four stormed Dinesh Kumar Sharma’s house, showed him their IT cards and asked him to remain silent. “One of them snatched my phone, another showed a pistol. Then they began to ransack the house, and packed jewellery and cash into bags,” Sharma said.Raman Singh told the victim that he is from the IT department and had detected a serious fraud in Sharma’s account books. “They asked a bribe of Rs 50 lakh for scrapping all cases against me. I told them I don’t have so much cash on me. But as the negotiations progressed they lowered the demand to Rs 15 lakh. I nodded, but they said as per rules all my properties will be seized and I can meet senior IT officials at their Statue Circle located office on Monday and seek the release of all the seized properties,” Sharma said.Tables turned quickly on robbers while they were all set to decamp in Sharma’s car. “My son had called me multiple times but I couldn’t pick up his phone, when I finally talked to him he sensed something was wrong and alerted other relatives too,” he said. Meanwhile, Sharma had asked one of his relatives to come home with Rs 15 lakh for the IT unit, but his relative contacted IT officials to find out that it was a weekly off at IT office.
