JAIPUR: An assistant treasury officer ( ATO ) was arrested by Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau ( ACB ) for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a retired colleague of his own department. Anil Kumar Pareek, posted at the treasury department was caught red-handed while accepting the cash for clearing the pension bills of the elderly complainant. “The complainant had retired from the same department in 2016. They were good friends but still the accused demanded the bribe. His bills had been pending for which he was running from pillar to the post. He came in contact with Pareek who demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000,” said an official.According to additional SP (ASP) Prithvi Raj Meena, the accused had already accepted a bribe of Rs 25,000 a few days ago. “The complainant was exasperated and approached the ACB. Two days ago too Pareek was given a bribe of Rs 5,000. Finally after verifying the complaint we laid a trap and nabbed him with the bribe money,” Meena said. Interestingly, the complainant and the accused had earlier worked in the same department. The ACB sleuths said that a case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.The accused had been working in the department for about 20 years. “The complainant was deeply upset because of Pareek, being a pensioner the former could not cough out Rs 50,000. He approached the ACB and sought action against Pareek. The ACB officials verified the veracity of the allegations and found the complaint to be true,” the official said, adding that Pareek had asked for the bribe money to be paid in multiple instalments in order to evade the suspicion of the authorities.
