Jaipur: An accused in an alleged rape case of his niece in Churu died while trying to escape from police.A 14-year-old girl had registered a case of sexual assault against her uncle on Friday in Hamirwas, Churu district. When the policemen went to the accused’s village, he tried to flee and was mowed down by a truck. The police officials maintained that it was an accidental death and the accused was not trying to flee from them but was just crossing the road when the accident occurred.Krishan Kumar, SHO, Hamirwas police station said, “According to the complainant’s statement, the accused had taken her to his house on Thursday where he allegedly raped her and kept her there till next morning. On being released, the girl informed her family and filed a police complaint. A team went to question the accused from his village but before we could arrest him, he met with an accident.”The accused has been identified as Anil Kumar and police registered a case under IPC section 376 (rape) based on the girl’s statement. However, the cops deny that Anil was fleeing from them. “He was not trying to escape from us but was hit by a pick-up truck when he was crossing the road. It is a case of accidental death. The alleged rape is still being investigated and the medical examination of the complainant has been done. Once the medical reports come back, we will have a clearer picture of the case,” added the police official.Sources, however, claim that Anil was actually trying to escape and did not see the speeding pick-up truck which killed him. He was severely injured in the accident and was taken to the government hospital in the area where he succumbed to his injuries.
