CEC discusses public issues near wildlife sanctuary areas

Excelsior CorrespondentLeh Jan 30: The Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Tashi Gyalson convened a meeting with stakeholders to discuss and find solutions to the on-going issues faced by wildlife sanctuary areas of Leh district in carrying out developmental activities in the protected regions. The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor for Wildlife Tashi Namgyal Yakzee; Councillor Sku-Markha Sonam Norboo; Chief Wildlife Warden Sajjad Hussain Mufti; Wildlife Warden Leh Pankaj Raina; XEn. CEC highlighted that the purpose of all laws regarding wildlife sanctuary areas is to conserve support and protect the environment and its inhabitants including human habitats. Gyalson directed Chief Wildlife Warden Sajad Hussain to conduct a workshop on “PARIVESH” portal for all the HODs of executing agencies at the earliest. The portal will collect details of all the DPRs to get clearances and timely approval from wildlife and environment departments which is mandatory for all the projects irrespective of projects under wildlife sanctuary areas in future.

PMGSY Leh Dorjey Gyatso; XEn. Construction Division Leh Nisar Ahmad and Stanzin Thinles of Reliance Jio Leh. Addressing the meeting CEC Gyalson highlighted issues and problems faced by villages of Leh district in carrying out developmental activities due to wildlife laws especially in the region of Sku-Markha which comes under the Hemis National Park. He directed the Department of Wildlife to find solutions and also to guide executing agencies in smooth execution of basic developmental works in such areas in the district. CEC highlighted that the purpose of all laws regarding wildlife sanctuary areas is to conserve support and protect the environment and its inhabitants including human habitats. He said that the people living in these regions of Ladakh are the guardian of such an environment for decades. He also said that the approach towards conservation of wildlife from such people will change if they are deprived of getting basic facilities like road electricity and mobile connectivity due to the laws and acts in future. Gyalson directed Chief Wildlife Warden Sajad Hussain to conduct a workshop on “PARIVESH” portal for all the HODs of executing agencies at the earliest.
