more-in Here is some good news for 2010 batch B.Tech. students of Mahatma Gandhi University, who were concerned about the delay in holding their internal improvement examination. The varsity has decided to conduct the exams before the second week of May. Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian told The Hindu on Wednesday that the varsity was planning to hold the internal improvement exam at select centres under it soon. The students had been running from pillar to post after they submitted the applications for improving the internal examinations a few months ago. They had paid a fee of ?2,000 for each subject. The delay had put the candidates in a fix as they feared that it would affect their career prospects. Mr. Sebastian pointed out that some of the colleges were refusing to conduct the exams stating that they could not devote manpower and administrative assistance for holding the exams for a few students. The varsity’s decision to hold them at select centres was taken on the inference that it would ease the process of conducting the exams and completing the process of evaluation in a centralised manner, he said. The varsity had earlier amended its B.Tech. course (2010 admission) regulations to permit eligible candidates to improve their internal assessment score across semesters. Under the regulations prevailing since 2010, no candidate was allowed to improve the score in practical examination and internal assessment. With the new amendment, those who have not passed in any subject or course on account of shortfall in internal assessment marks became eligible to appear for improvement examination. Earlier, candidates who had not scored minimum marks in the examination had to repeat the respective semesters as the seminar and project in the seventh and eighth semesters had only internal evaluation. An official order issued by the varsity, incorporating the recommendations of an expert committee appointed by the academic council, pointed out that candidates would be permitted to improve the internal assessment marks if they were either declared passed in a course or had obtained 75% marks in the internal assessment (35 out of 50). Candidates will only be eligible for the marks required to pass (75/150) irrespective of the marks obtained by them in the re-examination. Besides, only one chance will be given to them for improving their internal assessment score.
