Kerala police rescue 53,000 in Operation Jal Raksha

As per the records, the state control room and the regional control rooms handled more than 12 lakh calls and messages in the past three days. The police garnered more than 400 boats from coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram , Kollam, Thrissur, and Malappuram that were put to use in the affected areas. The police also opened regional control rooms at all places, where all the calls were handled and information was passed on to the regional units and boats moving in the area, for action. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Participating in the flood relief operations in the state was the biggest ever operations for Kerala Police with regards to rescue as 53,000 stranded citizens were rescued by a force of 26,000 police personnel of various ranks in their mission titled ‘Operation Jal Raksha’.The police department pressed into action the police boats, coastal police boats, marine commandos, women battalion, coastal police, state disaster response force members and Thunderbolts, who are usually involved in anti-Maoist combing operations, along with para military forces from BSF, CISF, NDRF and the armed forces, in evacuation and food supply.From the force, four DGPs, five IGs, two DIGs, 22 SPs, 68 DSPs, 146 CIs, 865 SIs, 1,478 ASIs, 6,547 senior civil police officers, 12,760 civil police officers, 160 women police battalion members, 80 commandos, 50 Thunderbolt members, 4,300 armed police battalion members and 865 coastal policemen, in addition to the supporting staff, participated in Operation Jal Raksha.Officers in the ranks of SPs to IGs were given charge of multiple locations to coordinate the rescue work, which was coordinated at the police headquarters by state police chief Loknath Behera.
