Kerala floods: 186 elderly women rescued in Palakkad

PALAKKAD: The CRPF rescue team has evacuated 186 elderly women from the Deivadan Sadan in Vadakkamcherry in the district as the area got flooded after the Mangalam River overflowed on Saturday.The rescued people were shifted to St Marys ITI. He said food items are supplied through ration shops at Attapadi.The relief camps were set up at MRS Mukkali, GUPS, Kukkumpalayam, Padavayal, Veettiyoor and Gottiyurkandy tribal hostel. They were provided food, water and medical help by the revenue authorities.The Mangalam bridge was submerged and the road traffic between Palakkad and Vadakkamcherry remain suspended.Meanwhile, Southern Railway has handed over 2,580 cartons of water bottles to the Palakkad district administration to flood-affected people. The cartons were dispatched from Chennai.The tribal heartland of Attapadi still remains cut off from the district after landslides hit the Mannarkkad-Mukkali highway.As many as 357 families, including 141 tribespeople have been housed in five relief camps. Minister for SC/ST A K Balan, who conducted a review meeting on the relief works at Agali in Attapadi on Saturday, said food, water and medicines are being supplied in the camps.There is round-the-clock medical help and a mobile medical unit working in the affected areas.
