Man held for drugging, robbery bid

A special squad of Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Wednesday arrested a man within hours after he drugged an Assam native during a suspected robbery attempt at the Ernakulam Town railway station. 2 of the North railway station at 11.30 pm on Tuesday. The accused was nabbed from the railway station on Thursday morning.

The accused was identified as Rustam Ali, 23, from Nagaon district in Assam. According to sources, the victim – 20-year-old Dilieep Deke – was found lying unconscious on Platform No. 2 of the North railway station at 11.30 pm on Tuesday. He was rushed to the General Hospital and his condition was later stated as satisfactory by the doctors. Meanwhile, the RPF personnel at the station acted quick and inquired about the youth. They learned from certain eyewitnesses that another Assamese man was found befriending him and the two had snacks together. The accused was nabbed from the railway station on Thursday morning. During interrogation he admitted to the robbery attempt, officials said. He was handed over to the Government railway police, Ernakulam. Ali befriended the victim at the station and insisted the latter to take food from outside. When he refused, Ali spoke in Assamese and won his confidence. The accused then offered him fruit juiced mixed psychotropic tablet Ativan.
