KOTTAYAM: Jalandhar bishop Franco Mulakkal , arrested on charges of raping a nun , was remanded in judicial custody for 12 days on Monday. Pala judicial first class magistrate S Lakshmi issued orders to lodge him in Pala sub jail till October 6, following which he was taken to the jail.The bishop appeared unmoved by the court decision. He was taken to the jail by 2.25pm and had a late fish-curry and rice-lunch before being taken to cell number 3.The remand prisoner 5968 will have the company of two persons in the cell, a petty case convict who has been sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment for a drunken brawl and a remand prisoner in a case of assault over a property dispute.The bishop was subjected to a medical check-up in the jail based on the magistrate’s directive. Jail authorities said the bishop appeared relaxed and did not raise any particular demand. He slept on the floor on a mat covered with a thick bed spread.Earlier in the day, the bishop was produced in the court around 1 pm after two days of interrogation in police custody. The probe team did not move court to extend his custody period.
