Kerala: Nehru Trophy Boat Race to be held on November 10 in Alappuzha

ALAPPUZHA: This year's Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be held on November 10 in the presence of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar in Alappuzha The decision in this regard was taken during a executive committee meeting of Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society ( NTBRS ) at district collectorate on Tuesday.State finance minister TM Thomas Isaac, who presided over the meeting said, they have decided to organise the 66th Nehru boat race on November 10. Recently, the government decided to conduct the cancelled state school youth festival in December in Alappuzha. The society has decided to find sponsors at the local level. The NTBRS will not accept any fresh financial aid from the state government. The society also released the signature song and sold the tickets of the event.

This will help to revive the flood-hit tourism sector in the state.The NTBR society had earlier released the logo and conducted all the competitions as part of this year’s NTBR. The society also released the signature song and sold the tickets of the event. However, on August 9, the state government had put off the event that was scheduled to be held on August 11 on Punnamada Lake following the devastating floods in the state.Though, the state government later announced that the boat race would be rescheduled, it cancelled all state-funded festivals and events following the devastating floods. Recently, the government decided to conduct the cancelled state school youth festival in December in Alappuzha. Following this, boat clubs, tour operators, snakeboat owners and the NTBRS have approached the government to get permission for conducting the event.Isaac said that considering the present situation, the regatta will be organised without the usual grandeur. The NTBRS will not accept any fresh financial aid from the state government. The society has decided to find sponsors at the local level.
