MALAPPURAM: A newborn was found abandoned in front of a house at Potathappadi near Tirur on Tuesday morning.The one-day-old girl, who was found in courtyard of the house around 5am, has been shifted to Kozhikode Medical College for treatment.It was around 5am when the baby was found in front of the house of social worker Kumari Sukumaran, who had set up an ‘Ammathottil’, near her house. “Only after receiving police investigation report we can start the procedures regarding the adoption of the child”, he said adding that the procedures will start only after two months.He said that the adoption procedure of abandoned baby is different from that of a surrendered baby and an orphaned baby.

The hospital authorities refered the baby to government medical college in Manjeri from where baby was produced before child welfare committee(CWC).According to CWC chairman K Manikandan, the baby was shifted to fondling home in Malappuram and after producing before the CWC she was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College and Hospital for treatment.Manikandan said that CWC will issue an order of police investigation regarding the incident on Wednesday. “Only after receiving police investigation report we can start the procedures regarding the adoption of the child”, he said adding that the procedures will start only after two months.He said that the adoption procedure of abandoned baby is different from that of a surrendered baby and an orphaned baby. CWC will monitor the procedures of adoption centres.
