Two engineering students killed in bike-truck collision

ALAPPUZHA: Two engineering students were killed and one of them was charred to death when their bike collided with a truck on NH 66 at Haripad on Thursday morning.The deceased have been identified as Sankarkumar, 20, Mavelikkara, and Kiran, 20, Mulakkuzha, Chengannur . Kiran was charred to death on the spot and Sankar died on the way to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. Their two -wheeler collided with the truck carrying plastic furniture to Ernakulam from Thirunelveli when they were moving to their homes. The reason for the fire has not been ascertained and we sought the help of motor vehicle department to find the reason for it,’’ said Manoj. They rode their bike as non- stop and visited Kodaikanal, Palani and Coimbatore.

The traffic through the NH got disrupted for hours.Haripad circle inspector T Manoj said that the deceased were going to their home in their two-wheeler after completing their tour programme with their friends.`` They, the students of an engineering college at Coimbatore, went for the tour with their eight friends in two -wheelers in the wee hours of November 7. They rode their bike as non- stop and visited Kodaikanal, Palani and Coimbatore. Their two -wheeler collided with the truck carrying plastic furniture to Ernakulam from Thirunelveli when they were moving to their homes. Kiran was charred to death on the spot and Sankar died on the way to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. Two of them suffered serious burn injuries in the accident. The reason for the fire has not been ascertained and we sought the help of motor vehicle department to find the reason for it,’’ said Manoj.
