KOCHI: A Chetak helicopter of Southern Naval Command, ‘IN 429’, which was carrying out routine flying, made a precautionary landing at Chammanad Devi Temple ground close to National Highway 66 near Thuravoor in Alappuzha around 1.30pm on Wednesday . The helicopter was taken to Kochi on a trailer late in the night.A Navy officer said the crew, consisting of two pilots, made the landing following a discrepancy in engine parameters.“It was not an emergency landing. As per our rule, if any discrepancy is found in engine parameters, they should land as soon as possible. The pilots are safe and the aircraft has not suffered any damage. The landing is as required by the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the helicopter. Our 14-member technical team reached there in another helicopter and inspected the chopper and found that it needed some repair works. The technical team then decided to take the helicopter back to Kochi by road for repairs,” said the officer.Local residents helped the Navy team to shift the helicopter to the highway.Though a trailer truck came to bring the chopper here at 6.30pm, it did not fit into the trailer. Later, another trailer brought the chopper to Kochi.Hearing the news of the helicopter landing, a large number of people gathered at the temple ground to see the chopper and take photos. Many people also got a chance to push the helicopter to the national highway.
