Exclusive programme for women techies

KOCHI: The FutureSkills platform of Nasscom, an industry-driven learning ecosystem, for the past one year had been running various programmes that helps their member companies to reskill their existing employees.One of the most interesting initiatives is Women Wizards Rule Tech (WWRT), a programme designed exclusively for women professionals in core technologies , to help them scale the career ladder.“Women employees sometimes have to take a career break because of happenings in their life. WWRT would help them to stay abreast by getting trained in latest technologies,” said Sujith Unni, regional head for Nasscom. The platform provides employees with mentors and they need to pay just Rs 1,000 for a year to get trained in any number of technologies.“There are three mentees for one mentor. Lab facilities in member companies are utilized for training purpose,” said Unni. The training programme has both online and offline modes which include contact sessions with technologists.Unni feels that it is not easy for techies to reskill themselves. “Most of them have huge workload. Many are aware of the new technologies but would not go deep into it. “For the past two-three years, we had been running peer group learning sessions to help them out,” said Unni. There are three sessions every month in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.Nasscom kickstarted the initiative to address the concerns of industry which is in the midst of a massive disruption due to a host of emerging technologies. The trade association estimates that of the 4.5 million people currently employed by the industry, nearly half of them requires reskilling in the next five years.The platform launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2018 is currently open for Nasscom member firms. The subscription will be open for individual subscribers and non-member firms by April 2019.
