KOCHI: Many of the projects announced in the city corporation budget for 2019-20 are originally part of Smart City or Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) schemes.One of the major proposals announced in the corporation budget was the Rs 150-crore smart road project, which aims to convert roads in the city into smart roads with utility ducts, pedestrian paths, medians, road furniture and provision for beautification.But Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML) is already in the process for implementing the smart road project under Smart City scheme.Seamless mobility for Fort Kochi-Mattancherry is another project, being implemented by CSML.Another proposal in the budget was e-mobility action plan, which aims at switching over of vehicles in the city to electric mode from fossil fuels. But the project has already been there in the projects of CSML.Smart traffic signals, which is to synchronise and automate traffic signals in the city, is a project of CSML and KMRL. But the proposal has figured in the 2019-20 budget of Kochi corporation. The same project had been there in the previous corporation budget too.The proposal in the budget for renovating Ernakulam Broadway is there in the CSML's schedule also. The Rs 85-crore comprehensive command and communicable centre declared in the corporation's 2019-20 budget had already announced by CSML.Renovation of one of the colonies at Fort Kochi at a cost of Rs 4 crore has figured in the corporation's budget and in the CSML's list.Multi-level car parking, which was there in previous budget, is announced in 2019-20 budget as well. The project, which was to be implemented by CSML, is yet to be started.Repetition of projects also has been there in the budget for 2019-20.Rehabilitation of street vendors, parking zones using vacant and unutilized plots in the city, Rs 90-crore project for augmenting water supply in the city, which originally was a project to be introduced under Amrut, completing construction of the local body's new office building, solar panels in government schools in the city and renovation of crematoria in the city are some of the projects which had been included in the past few budgets.The repeating of projects point to the lackadaisical attitude of the local body authorities in implementing projects.
