A man convinced his live-in partner for selling kidneys and did not return after.

Money takes away everything, in this case, it took away love. A 43-year-old woman alleged that her live-in partner, who had forced her to sell her kidney for Rs 8 lakh two years ago, fled with the money earlier this month. The incident reportedly took place in Kochi, Kerala.

The victim, Sofiya, said she was pressured by her live-in partner, Muhammed Raneesh, to sell her kidney for Rs 8 lakh, the New Indian Express reported. Sofiya is currently residing at Nice Hostel in Vazhakkala, Kerala.

"He [Muhammed Raneesh] convinced me to sell the kidney saying it would help us tide over our financial crisis. He also promised to marry me," Sofiya was quoted as saying.

Sofiya further said she was unaware of the recipient of her kidney till the day of the surgery on April 4, 2019.

"The financial deal was between Muhammed and the recipient`s family. They transferred the amount to his bank account," Sofiya was quoted as saying.

Sofiya further said that Muhammed Raneesh left home on July 6 and did not return home thereafter.

After the incident came to light, Thrikkakara Inspector R Shabu said police have launched an investigation based on the woman`s complaint.
