Diphtheria cases being investigated

A 16-year-old boy from Assam, who had come to visit his relatives, had died of suspected diphtheria at the Thrissur Medical College on April 20. A six-year-old from Vazhakkulam and 18-year-old from Kaloor, who had shown symptoms of diphtheria, were being treated and recovering, said the press release. The health authorities have visited the place the person had lived in Thrikkakara and disseminated information about diphtheria and the care to be taken to seek proper treatment. A six-year-old from Vazhakkulam and 18-year-old from Kaloor, who had shown symptoms of diphtheria, were being treated and recovering, said the press release. Additional health director Usha Kumari visited Ernakulam in the wake of the reports to review the situation. A survey would be conducted to identify symptoms among the people. Vaccines would be administered to doctors and health workers, who were involved in activities related to the treatment of patients and identification of possible cases, the release said.
