Mon Bans Three Wheelers Makes Offices Tobacco Free Zones

The house also resolved to make all offices under Mon to be Tobacco-free zones since as of now only the Deputy Commissioner's Office is a tobacco-free zone in the district, stated a release. On the ongoing plastic-free awareness campaign in the district, the house discussed the alternative ways of replacing the use of plastic. The house also discussed the harmful effects of salt and their demerits in the cultivated land. During the meeting, the house discussed the creation of Tapi Block which is to be re-christened as Mon Block (North) as approved in the last DPDB meeting. In order to implement properly and efficiently, the house recommended for enhancement of manpower at the OST centre in the district.

MON: After a thorough discussion on the safety measures of roads and vehicles and as per the standing order of the government, the monthly meeting of the Mon District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) decided to ban plying of three-wheelers/auto-rickshaws in the district. The meeting was held at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner under the chairmanship of MLA and Chairman DPDB, Mon Eshak Konyak and MLA N. Thongwang Konyak recently. The house also resolved to make all offices under Mon to be Tobacco-free zones since as of now only the Deputy Commissioners Office is a tobacco-free zone in the district, stated a release. The house further approved and recommended for formation of Society for Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SPCA). Chairing the meeting, DC and Vice-Chairman DPDB Mon, Thavaseelan K, welcomed the new DPDB chairman Eshak Konyak, MLA Thongwang and the members present in the meeting. During the meeting, the house discussed the creation of Tapi Block which is to be re-christened as Mon Block (North) as approved in the last DPDB meeting. Under the Education sector, the house approved and recommended for up-gradation of Amity School Lapa Lampong (Tizit), up-gradation of post for Government Middle School Sowa village and grant-in-Aid for the construction of a playground in the premises of Ying-Angh School at Aboi. After a discussion on the condition and the need for infrastructure at the Mon TB centre, the construction of a building of the district TB centre at the district hospital was approved. On the youth and Sports sector, the meet felt the need for a good infrastructure of a sports ground and a sports complex in the district and the house recommended for the construction of an Astro-turf football ground and also the construction of a multipurpose hall on Mon. The house discussed the present scenario of drug abuse in the district where many have been registered at the rehabilitation centre and are undergoing treatment for taking Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST). In order to implement properly and efficiently, the house recommended for enhancement of manpower at the OST centre in the district.
