On the occasion of Shivaji Jayanti on Monday, a city based group –Sayukt Ravivar peth Utsav Samiti came together to decorate the hug statue of Shivaji Maharaj near Bindu Chowk of Kolhapur . Other statues of shipai (soldiers) and men sitting on horses were also put up around Shivaji Maharaj’s statue. A group of youngsters played the dhol-tasha to mark the occasion. There was an entertainment program organised for the spectators and many dignitaries spoke about the great Maratha king on the dais. Women were dressed up in traditionaland donned themselves with saffronon their head. It was a sight to watch the huge statues lip up with the colourful lighting. The dusky evening blended with cultural gathering generated sense of cheerfulness among all the on-goers.
