Alternate day water proposal for E-ward stalled amid protests

BJP corporator Kamalakar Bhopale threatened to resign if his ward Temblaiwadi continues to be plagued with water scarcity. But, corporators from other wards claimed they did not receive water since last few days. Tararani Aghadi corporator from Rukhmininagar Uma Ingale claimed residents in her ward are receiving contaminated water.Corporator Rajsinha Shelke from Jadhavwadi, who had tabled the proposal, stated that after the civic administration learnt they were going to table the proposal for alternate day water supply, officials resumed the water supply to E ward from the last two days. “We want uniform water supply in all areas and not that one part is left dry and other gets water,” said Congress corporator Bhupal Shete.Standing committee chairman Ashish Dhawale said that half the water lifted from the river is wasted and that KMC should concentrate on proper management since the water is available in abundance.

Kolhapur: The proposal of alternate day water supply tabled by corporators from E ward could not get through as the general body meeting of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Thursday was adjourned owing to the ruckus created by corporators over several issues.At the very beginning of the meeting, corporators cutting across party lines slammed the civic body for failing to ensure uniform water supply. BJP corporator Ishwar Parmar said the infrastructure required for water supply such as pumping stations and pipelines are inadequate to meet the demands of the population that has significantly increased in the last 10-15 years.Responding to the concerns, civic chief Abhijeet Chaudhari said, “We have set up a stand-by pump, generators, plugged the leakages and stopped mechanical failures. We are going to procure pumps which will take some time. I am going to conduct a meeting and draft plans and estimates to overhaul the water supply infrastructure.”Mayor Swati Yavaluje said she is going to call a meeting of the officials and the corporators once a week so that officials remember their responsibility and ensure actions are taken on time.
