Kolhapur: Five people from Belgaum were killed after an SUV they were travelling in fell into a gorge at Lashkar point in Tillari ghat area of Kodali village in Chandgad taluka on Sunday evening. They had come to the Tillari picnic point and were returning after visiting the sun set at Laskhar point when the mishap occurred.The deceased have been identified as Mohan Laxman Redkar (40), Krishna Mukund Gawade (19), Yallappa N Patil (45), Pankaj alias Jyotirling Sampat Tewekar (30) and Nagendra Shidapa Babu Gawade (29).Police and disaster management teams have launched a rescue operation and recovered the bodies, said a Kolhapur district administration official.“Immediately after we got information about the incident, we rushed to the spot. With the help of villagers we have recovered the bodies from the SUV that was around 150 feet down in the gorge. The bodies have been taken to the government hospital for post mortem,” said a police officer from Chandgad.“We are investigating to find out whether the driver lost control of the vehicle or there were some other reasons behind the accidents,” he added.
