3 arrested for traffic constables murder

KOLHAPUR: The Sangli police have arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the murder of constable Samadhan Manate of the Miraj police's traffic branch.The constable was stabbed to death outside a restaurant in Vishrambag, Sangli, on Tuesday night. This angered Jamadar who stabbed Manate with a sharp-edged weapon outside the hotel," a senior police officer said. "We are gathering information about the incident in details and will get more details from the suspects. "The preliminary investigation suggests that a heated argument between Manate and Jamadar who was under the influence of alcohol in the hotel resulted into former slapping the latter. "We have suspended Bhingardeve and Gurav for negligence of duty," he said.The hotel in which the constable was murdered falls in the jurisdiction of Sanjaynagar police station.

After the incident, the police had detained two suspects, while the main accused was arrested by Juna Rajwada police at a bridge near Ujalaiwadi in Kolhapur The suspects have been identified as 31-year-old Zakir Jamadar (a resident of Sahyadri Nagar), 29-year-old Raju alias Akthar Nadaf and 30-year-old Ansajr Pathan (both resident of HUDCO colony in Sangli)."The preliminary investigation suggests that a heated argument between Manate and Jamadar who was under the influence of alcohol in the hotel resulted into former slapping the latter. This angered Jamadar who stabbed Manate with a sharp-edged weapon outside the hotel," a senior police officer said."We are gathering information about the incident in details and will get more details from the suspects. We will ensure that the guilty is convicted," he added.PI, excise inspector suspended for poll code violation : Police inspector in-charge of Sanjaynagar police station Ramesh Bhingardeve and excise inspector Ganesh Gurav have been suspended by state election commissioner for negligence of duty and violation of model code of conduct.State election commissioner J S Saharia, who was in Sangli to take review of the preparation of the district administration on the backdrop of Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad municipal corporation election, shared this information with reporters during a press conference."We have suspended Bhingardeve and Gurav for negligence of duty," he said.The hotel in which the constable was murdered falls in the jurisdiction of Sanjaynagar police station. District collector V N Kalam Patil said, "We have cancelled the license of the hotel in which the incident took place for failing to obey the orders issued to follow model code of conduct."
