SIT team probing Cosmos bank hacking case to visit Kolhapur

KOLHAPUR: A special investigation team (SIT), probing the Rs 94.42 crore Cosmos Bank cyber hacking case, is likely to visit the bank's Kolhapur branch.According to police officiers, they are gathering information about the incident from various bank branches and will soon visit these branches if required.The incident happened between August 11 and 13. "When contacted an official from the bank's Kolhapur branch said, "We have read about police visiting our branch in the newspaper, but no one has officially communicated this to us. "The officer added, "Once we complete analysing the transaction details, we will initiate action and visit the bank branches located in other parts of the country including Kolhapur. "The official added, "There are two branches of the bank in Kolhapur at Laxmipuri and Shahupuri. We have also asked bank officials to submit the details of transaction from other branches in the country during the period.

According to sources, the fraudster used the ATM kiosk in Kolhapur for some transactions. The team is likely to visit Kolhapur and gather information regarding transactions at the bank's ATM kiosks in Kolhapur over the specified period.Deputy commissioner of police (cyber) Jyoti Priya Singh, who is heading the SIT investigation said, "At present we are gathering information about the incident from the bank's head office. We have also asked bank officials to submit the details of transaction from other branches in the country during the period."The officer added, "Once we complete analysing the transaction details, we will initiate action and visit the bank branches located in other parts of the country including Kolhapur."When contacted an official from the bank's Kolhapur branch said, "We have read about police visiting our branch in the newspaper, but no one has officially communicated this to us. We have neither received such instructions from our head office, nor from police officers."The official added, "There are two branches of the bank in Kolhapur at Laxmipuri and Shahupuri. There are only two ATMs of the bank and we have sealed both of them. During these two days cash amounting to Rs 8 lakh has been withdrawn by customers. We have closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from both branches and will produce it to police when required."
