KOLHAPUR: A 49-year-old man has been allegedly cheated of Rs 3.60 lakh on the pretext of paying college fee after securing admission to his son in a reputed institute in Aurangabad for class XII.The incident has been registered with Laxmipuri police station.According to police, Prataprao Jagannath Kharat, a resident of Suryavanshi colony, has lodged a complaint in this regard. In 2017, Kharat wanted to secure Std XII admission for his son in a reputed college in Aurangabad. One person from Sangli allegedly contacted him stating that he has contacts in the college in Aurangabad."With his help, we secured admission for our son in the college in Aurangabad. After admission, the man asked me to transfer Rs 1.45 lakh to a particular account to pay college fee. Since then, I have paid him Rs 3.60 lakh to pay the college fees," Kharat told the police.Kharat, however, realised that he had been cheated when the college administration asked him to pay the fees. "I told the college administration that I have already paid the fee and submitted the details of the account. The college said the account does not belong to them. I have paid the college separately," he said.Kharat later contacted the suspect and demanded his money. Despite repeated calls, the suspect refused to pay the money. Kharat has lodged a complaint against the suspect in Laxmipuri police station.
