KOLHAPUR: Sangli city police on Tuesday arrested the 45-year-old doctor, Vijaykumar Shamrao Chougule, in the illegal abortion case, which was unearthed by the Sangli Miraj Kupwad Municipal Corporation ( SMKMC ) last week. Chougule disappeared soon after his wife, Rupali, who is also a doctor, was arrested on Monday. Following an intense search by police, the suspect was nabbed within hours of his disappearance, said an officer.Police have launched an inquiry against a senior doctor from the Sangli civil hospital who used to visit Chougule's clinic. Another suspect doctor still is absconding. An officer from the Sangli city police station said, "We have got police custody the doctor couple. We traced all the nine women who approached the couple for abortion."Police said they recovered vital information from the staff working in Chougle's clinic in the Ganeshnagar. The details will be presented before the court for seeking additional custody of the accused, said police.
