Burglars cut open Islampur ATM with gas cutter, steal Rs 11.45 lakh

“While investigating, we have recovered CCTV footage from the shops and business complexes near the ATM centre. Some half-burned notes were found inside and outside the ATM centre. In one of the CCTV footages, we could see a SUV approaching the ATM centre at around 2.17am on Saturday and leaving at 2.27am. CCTV footage from another camera shows three people getting down from the SUV and entering it again after 10 minutes. Kolhapur: A gang of thieves cut open an ATM of a bank located on the Islampur-Waghwadi phata in the Islampur town of Sangli district and decamped with Rs11.45 lakh in the wee hours of Saturday.The incident has been registered with the Islampur police station.

According to police officials, the incident happed between 2.17am and 2. 27am on Saturday.Kishor Kale, deputy superintendent of police, Islampur division said, “The incident came to light on Saturday morning when the owner of the building where the ATM centre is located noticed some notes lying outside the ATM centre and informed us.”“We immediately rushed to the spot and found that the ATM machine had been broken into with a gas cutter. Some half-burned notes were found inside and outside the ATM centre. The culprits have also damaged the CCTV cameras from inside the ATM,” he said.A dog squad was immediately deployed on the spot but could not give any leads. “While investigating, we have recovered CCTV footage from the shops and business complexes near the ATM centre. In one of the CCTV footages, we could see a SUV approaching the ATM centre at around 2.17am on Saturday and leaving at 2.27am. CCTV footage from another camera shows three people getting down from the SUV and entering it again after 10 minutes. The sudden glow of light around the SUV during this period suggests that the culprits must have used a gas cutter to break into the ATM machine,” he said.“The ATM officials said that cash of Rs11.45 lakh has been stolen from the machine,” he said.“We are gathering information about similar types of attempts at Karad and Aurangabad a few days ago and we suspect that the same gang might be involved in this incident.” he added
