Bike-borne thieves strike at different spots, loot 20,000

KOLHAPUR: In two separate incidents reported in various parts of the district unidentified bike-borne men looted two people at knife-point and decamped with valuables worth Rs 20,000 from them.In the first incident, reported in the jurisdiction of Panhala police station, the complainant - identified as 24-year-old Vijay Kamble, a resident of Satarde area in Panhala taluka - was travelling home on a motorcycle with his cousin when three unidentified men riding on a black motorcycle waylaid them on Saturday night.They threatened the duo with knife and thrashed them before taking cash and valuables from Kamble amounting to Rs 5,500. Kamble later lodged complaint in this regard with Panhala police station.The second incident, committed in similar fashion, was reported in the jurisdiction of Gaganbawada police station. The complainant - identified as 39-year-old Krishnath Mhetar , a resident of Padwalwadi area - was on his way home on Saturday night when a gang of three people riding on a motorcycle stopped him.Using a knife, the trio robbed Mhetar of valuable worth Rs 14,500 - gold jewellery (Rs 10,000) and cash (Rs 4,500). "We have registered cases against unidentified people under section 392 (robbery) and 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code .
