Kolhapur: A 50-year-old builder based in Kolhapur allegedly committed suicide at his office at Mukta Sainik Vasahat by consuming poison on Tuesday evening.Police said the man’s relatives have not yet filed a complaint. His relatives said he was worried about repaying money he owed to moneylenders.His family members told TOI that Sunil Balkrinsha Genjage left home on Tuesday afternoon saying he was going to office. In the evening, when he could not be contacted on phone, his family members visited his office and found it bolted from within. Genjage did not reply when they knocked and called out for him, so they broke the door open and found him lying lifeless. He was rushed to Chhatrapati Pramila Raje (CPR) civil hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.“He faced a lot of tension and would tell us that he had borrowed money from private moneylenders for business, but was unable to repay it. That might have made him take the extreme step,” a relative of Genjage said.Prashant Amrutkar, deputy superintendent of police, Kolhapur said, “Till Wednesday evening, we did not receive any complaint. We are gathering information. If someone from the family comes forward and registers a complaint, we will investigate whether any moneylenders abetted the man’s suicide.”
