KOLHAPUR: Kolhapur Municipal Corporation KMC ) has called a general body meeting on Monday. Mayor Shobha Bondre is unlikely to resign.The tenure of Mayor Bondre ends this month. It is likely a special meeting will be called later this month or next month for resignation. Meanwhile Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has denied claims that some of its corporators have been in talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party-Tararani Aghadi alliance in a bid to defect and support a BJP or Tararani Aghadi corporator for mayor.Congress and Nationalist Congress Party enjoy majority in the house of 81 corporators. At present Congress holds the post of mayor. It will now be NCP’s turn. Three women corporators have staked their claim to contest mayoral polls, which has come as a big headache to NCP leaders. BJP-Tararani Aghadi leaders claim that they have been contacted by 11 of 15 NCP corporators, who wish to defect and support them.A senior Congress corporator, requesting anonymity, said, “The resignation will not take place soon. A separate general body meet will be called. We have ensured that all corporators of Congress and NCP put their weight behind the NCP candidate. There is no possibility of defection – that invites disqualification.”
