Police to take action against criminals

Action will be taken against the gangs and individuals, along with anti-social elements. KOLHAPUR: With the Lok Sabha elections round the corner, the Kolhapur police have started taking stern action against anti-social elements and illegal activities.Superintendent of Police Abhinav Deshmukh has asked the police to gather information about criminals and gangs operating in the district and take preventive action against them to ensure free and fair election.Prashant Amrutkar, deputy superintendent of police, Kolhapur city said, “We have been given instructions to prepare a list of criminals and people on police record. The instructions have been issued to police stations to gather information in this regard. :“Based on the severity of the cases registered against them, we will initiate process to extern them from the district, invoke MCOCA, issue prohibitory orders and take action against them under MPDA Act. All these processes will be completed before the dates of election are announced and we will be prepared to ensure free and fair environment for the polls without any law and order problems.”

In case of those who are a threat to the law and order situation but there is no need to take any major action against them, we will get them sign bonds of good behaviour,” he added.Amrutkar further said, “We will also start the process of collecting weapons from those who own them. All these processes will be completed before the dates of election are announced and we will be prepared to ensure free and fair environment for the polls without any law and order problems.”
