Woman duped of gold jewelllery worth Rs 70,000

Kolhapur: The Shahupuri police have booked two people for cheating a woman of her gold jewellery worth Rs70,000 on the pretext of polishing it.According to police, the suspects approached the woman — Nanda Shamrao Bhosale (45), a resident of Mahalaxmi Colony in Kasaba Bawada — when she was alone at home. They told her that they are expert in polishing gold jewellery and asked if she would like to use their service.After convincing Bhosale, they asked her to get a dish filled with water. The duo then added some powder into the dish and put the woman’s jewellery in it. They kept the dish on a burning stove and asked the woman to remove the jewellery after 10 minutes.However, when Bhosale checked the liquid, she found that the ornaments were missing. She later lodged a complaint at Shahupuri police station.“We have registered a case against unidentified people under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. We are gathering information about the suspects. The suspects are in the age group of 20 to 25 and were speaking in Kannada. We are searching for criminal having past record of committing similar type of crimes,” an officer attached with Shahupuri police station said.“We are also searching for criminals having connection with criminals in bordering districts of Maharashtra and Karnataka to gather information about people involved in similar type of crimes. We have launched a search operation and will soon nab the suspects,” he added.Uncle booked for 2-yr-old girl’s death under his car: Police have booked the uncle of a two-year-old girl who died after coming under the wheels of his car on Wednesday.The girl, identified as Bhakti, was knocked down by Dinesh Sunil Vadankar (26) when she rushed towards the vehicle to welcome him near her home in the Lonar Vasahat area.The man has been charged under several IPC sections, including section 279, 304 (A), 337, 338 and section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
