Two booked for extortion threat of over Rs 2 lakh

KOLHAPUR: The Shivajinagar police have booked two people for allegedly demanding Rs2 lakh as ransom and Rs25,000 per month as protection money from a man.According to police, the complainant, identified as Balu Tukaram Bhosale (28), a resident of Juna Chandur Road, Durga Mata chowk, Ichalkaranji in Hatkanangle taluka has lodged a complaint in this regard.“As per the complainant, on January 30, Bhosale and his friend were busy discussing some issue at the Juna Chandur road when the accused, along with his relative, approached Bhosale and threatened him over his alleged behaviour in Ichalkaranji. The accused demanded Rs2 lakh from him immediately and Rs25,000 per month as protection money. He also threatened Bhosale that if he fails to pay the money, he will tell the police that Bhosale is involved in the business of purchasing and selling the gold jewellery that is stolen by robbers in house break-ins in the district and the accused said that he will ensure that a case in this regard is filed against Bhosale. The accused and his relative returned at the same place again on the night of January 30 and threatened Bhosale to act immediately and pay them the money,” said a police officer attached with the Shivajinagar police station.“Following this, Bhosale lodged a complaint with our police station on February 1. We have booked the duo under IPC sections 384 (Punishment for extortion) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation).
